Sambalpuri

Origin: After fall of Chouhan empire, the bhulia community fled north India around 1190 AD. Ruler of Patnagarh, Ramai Dev, brought some 100 such weaver families from Raipur, who supposed to settle down at Parnagarh, eventually spreading to other areas. Initially this art flourished under royal patronage and was used for the fabrication of silk fabrics for the royal wardrobe.
